Making Delicious Smoothies & Where to Find them in Wake Forest

If you are looking for a tasty, quick, on the go “pick me up” anytime of the day, consider trying a tasty smoothie. I love smoothies because they are so versatile. I have been making all kinds of smoothies for many years. I tend to gravitate towards more sweet green smoothies.  No matter your taste buds, there is a smoothie out there for everyone—you just need to have an open mind–especially with the green ones 🙂 It is such an easy way to get your vitamins and minerals. If you choose the right portions of spinach or kale, you cannot really even tell it is there.  Whether you make them at home or go to a Wake Forest smoothie shop near you, take advantage of all the healthy benefits they have to offer!

There are some guidelines to remember when planning to make a smoothie–they are not all created equally. Always look out for the sugar content especially when not making them yourself. A smoothie can go from healthy to a liquid candy bar quickly so really read those nutritional facts. Artificial sweeteners are another culprit to look out for.

If you follow these steps below, you can be a smoothie expert:

#1 Pick a smoothie recipe. What sounds good to you? Google is an awesome source.

#2  Pick a Liquid. Some great options are almond milk, tea, coconut water, fresh pressed juice, or coconut milk. In addition, a tablespoon of melted coconut oil is also yummy!

#3  Choose a Base. I love getting frozen fruit at our Wake Forest Sam’s Club for my smoothies. My go to is the Dole Mixed Fruit that has peaches, strawberries, mangoes, & pineapple. Having frozen fruit on hand is key to making your smoothie on the fly. Avocado & nut butters add a nice smoothness to a smoothie too. Tip: I feel that crushed ice works better than whole ice to give it a nice texture.

#4 Choose a Green. You can use spinach, kale, beet greens, dandelion greens, or arugula. These superfoods can reduce your risk of heart disease, memory loss, &  other health problems. Superfoods are packed with vitamins, minerals, & fiber. My personal favorite is a handful of spinach.

#5: Optional Add Ins.  Cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, nutmeg, cayenne, goji berries, chia seeds, aloe vera, cacao powder, and protein powder add a nice layer to a smoothie.  The possibilities are really endless. My all time favorite add in is Vanilla Vegansmart Plant Based Protein Powder by Naturade. It also comes in chocolate & wild berry.  It doesn’t have any artificial ingredients and has omega 3, prebiotics, and digestive enzymes in it. When you blend your ingredients, do so for 30-60 seconds. The longer you blend, the runnier it will be—it is up to you! I use the NutriBullet and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to make 1-2 smoothies at a time.

#6: Presentation. I personally love drinking my smoothie from a glass mason jar with a straw. I know it is in my head, but they taste so much better when you can actually see all the wholesome nutrients that your are ingesting. You can visualize the hug your insides are giving it as you drink it 🙂

Next time when you are out looking at Wake Forest homes with your real estate agent, make sure to grab a smoothie to start your day off right. You will feel satisfied, energized, and ready to tour a lot of homes without crashing physically and mentally. Trust me–your body will thank you for it!
