French Press Coffee…

OK, so a few years ago I bought a really nice french press. At the time I was drinking coffee with cream & sugar in it daily. No….all day, daily. You see, part my family is from Germany. When I grew up in my earliest years in Neunkirchen Germany I remember having coffee brewing all day. With every meal. It has in some ways become my woobie-blanket through the years. The Kima family, for generations, has solved problems over coffee, cried over coffee, laughed over coffee, and grew as a family….over coffee. About a year ago I decided to drop the cream & sugar from the coffee and discovered something incredible…I loved the flavor of coffee. Not the sweet dessert that I had been drinking for decades but the actual flavor of coffee itself. No longer did I need to have several cups a day. I now slow down and actually enjoy the flavor and the aroma of the coffee itself.

Mmmmm....Gooooood morning!

Today I decided to blow the dust off of the beautiful french press. I grabbed a Starbucks whole bean blend and before I put the beans in the coffee mill I stopped, took a second to slow down and inhaled the wonderful scent of the beans. After boiling my water and pressing the beans I must admit it may have been the best cup of coffee I have ever had. I sat quietly in my office reading the morning online papers and truly relishing my morning cup o’ joe that so often I had just grabbed a quick one and ran out the door. Sometimes slowing life down and enjoying every bit of it is cool. And refreshing.

Do you drink coffee every morning? Do you grab it and go? Are you a Starbucks person? Are you a former New Englandah (as I am) and have to have your Dunkin Donuts coffee? Either way, I bet many of you start your day out with a cup of coffee. Tomorrow when you have that cup, know that the Kima family here in Wake Forest is enjoying one too.
