E. Carroll Joyner Park & Community Center

Homeowners and renters in Wake Forest, NC are likely familiar with E. Carroll Joyner Park, better known as Joyner Park, located at 701 Harris Rd. This 117 acre park opened to the public in August 2009 and has been a destination for Wake Forest residents ever since.

History

E. Carroll Joyner Park was a working farm where both cattle and produce were raised until the 1990s. Some of the original structures are still on the property including a tobacco barn, mule barn, and chicken coop, which have been refurbished. While the log cabin on the property is not original to E. Carroll Joyner Park it gives residents a look at a true historic building.

Things to Do

E. Carroll Joyner Park seems to always have something going on! There are 3 miles of paved walking trails which you can almost always find people walking their dogs, getting in a good run, or just talking a slow stroll through. You can even grab a fishing pole and see what you might catch in the pond. Weddings, birthday parties, and more are all allowed and able to be reserved at the park. Each Spring “Joyner Park” offers the “Six Sundays” concert series where families are encouraged to bring a blanket and picnic and enjoy live music and food with their neighbors. During the Summer, Joyner Park offers a Family Movie Series as well and judging by the number of cars there when we drive by, this is a FUN event! Yet another event most often enjoyed by families in the Wake Forest area is the annual Easter Egg Hunt put on by the Town of Wake Forest.

Joyner Park Community Center

The only thing our family ever thought was missing from the park was a playground and community center, and now, as of October 2019, both now exist!
The community center is a 32,000-square-foot facility featuring a walking track on the second level with cardio equipment interspersed, gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and pickleball, multi-purpose rooms, a dance studio and a kitchen. To obtain a recreation card needed to access the community center click here.
The playground is also a great new addition with swings, climbing structures, and all sorts of fun areas for kids to play! Our kids are certainly excited about this new addition.

If you haven’t been out to E. Carroll Joyner park yet do yourself a favor and plan a trip soon, especially while the weather is getting cooler and the trees are changing colors!
