Check out the Town of Wake Forest Recreational Youth Athletic Programs

Boys Basketball Wake ForestThe Town of Wake Forest offers a robust recreational youth sports program through their Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department (PRCR). They offer athletic programs for boys and girls ages five and older. The youth athletics participant fee for residents is $40 per player (per season) and $80 per player (per season) for non-residents. My children have participated in the basketball and baseball leagues for the past 6 years. We have had a great overall experience. There were seasons where they went undefeated and brought home a league championship trophy and seasons where they barely won a game. During those losing seasons, there was a lot of character building going on. We have been fortunate to have many dedicated coaches give of their time, including my husband. While some of the coaches were better skilled at teaching, other coaches were better at instilling a sense of confidence and fostering a love of the game. Keep in mind these are recreational leagues, the beauty of recreational sports is that the talent ranges from beginner to seasoned players. These kids cheer each other on regardless of skill level and celebrate individual improvements as the season goes on. These kids sure do give it their all.

Be sure to double check registration dates because the leagues fill up. They do maintain wait lists but the odds are against you since demand for spots far exceed openings. The town is limited by the number of fields available — both outdoor fields as well as indoor facility space. The recreational leagues play at various town parks as well as use local school fields. The town just approved a new community facility to be built at E. Carroll Joyner Park on Harris Road. It will include three full-sized basketball courts among other amenities which will be a fantastic and much needed addition to what the town already provides. As the population of Wake Forest increases, so does the need for more athletic fields and facilities for everyone to enjoy! .
