Upcoming MAY Events in Wake Forest You Don’t Want To Miss!

It’s that time of year where the weather is nice and people are wanting to get out and enjoy what Wake Forest has to offer. Be sure to check out the Town of Wake Forest website which has a Community Calendar of all events taking place! Here are some events that should not be missed!

 

May 8th

  • Public meeting to address Downtown Improvements, Phase 3

The Town of Wake Forest will host a public meeting on Tuesday, May 8, to unveil the conceptual design plan for Downtown Improvements, Phase 3. Scheduled from 4:30-6:30 p.m., the session will take place in the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre Arts Annex, 407 S. Brooks St.

Phase 3 consists of street and landscape improvements along South White Street from East Holding Avenue to Elm Avenue (Section 1) and East Owen Avenue from South White Street to Brooks Street (Section 2A).

The May 8 meeting will have an informal, open house-style format, so residents may drop in anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. No formal presentation will be offered, but Wake Forest officials will be on hand to answer questions and listen to comments regarding the project.

 

May10th

Thursday, May 10; 1:30 p.m.

Thursday, May 17; 10 a.m.

Thursday, May 24; 1:30 p.m.

 

Led by architectural historian and Town Historic Preservation Planner Michelle Michael, the tours will include areas along North Main Street, North Avenue, Front Street, and South Avenue. Along the way, each group will discuss the developmental and architectural history of the area, along with the significant men and women who lived in the homes. Tours will not include individual homes.

 

Each tour is approximately two hours and will begin at the corner of North Main Street and Walnut Street and end at the Wake Forest Historical Museum, 414 N. Main St.

 

May 11th

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and join your friends and neighbors in downtown Wake Forest for another incredible season of Friday Night on White.

Presented by White Street Brewing Co., Friday Night on White takes place along South White Street on the second Friday of each month from April through September. The free concerts run from 6-9 p.m. and feature a variety of premier local bands.

In addition, several downtown merchants offer a variety of special discounts, programs, and activities.

 

May 12th (Weekly on Saturday)

Offering meat, eggs, honey, baked goods, produce, fresh cut flowers, chocolate, fair trade coffee, pottery, jewelry, wood craft, bedding plants, soaps, lotions. Live music, kids craft/play tent. Educational events

Downtown Wake Forest is now the site of an incredible music series called “The Listening Room.” Designed to create a vibrant local music scene for aspiring artists, the series brings live music performances to various downtown shops each month. Located at Sugar Magnolia Cafe, 219 S. White St. Starting at 7 PM.

 

May 13th (Weekly thru 06/02/2018)

Bring the kids, friends, a picnic and a blanket and settle in for some foot-tapping, finger-snapping good times! The 2018 Six Sundays in Spring concert series is scheduled for six consecutive Sundays from April 29 through June 3.

Sponsored by Wake Forest ARTS,these free concerts get underway at 5 p.m. and take place at the E. Carroll Joyner Park Amphitheater, 701 Harris Road.

In the event of rain, the concerts may relocated to the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase or bring your own picnic.

 

May 14th (Weekly)

If you’re a serious BINGO player, then make plans to start spending your Monday nights at The Factory with the Wake Forest Kiwanis Club. Wake Forest Kiwanis are hosting regular CASH bingo each Monday night at the Factory in Wake Forest. All profits support our children’s projects, such as Key Clubs, Third Grade dictionaries, and scholarships.

For the $20 entry fee you will receive a packet of BINGO cards for all the evening’s games.

Cash prizes will be awarded and food and drinks will be available. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and games are held from 7-9:30 p.m.

 

May 17th (Weekly thru 5/30/2018)

Music at Midday returns to Centennial Plaza this spring beginning Thursday, May 10, and continues each Thursday through May 31. Sponsored by the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department and Wake Forest ARTS, Music at Midday features diverse one-hour musical programs from noon to 1 p.m.

Picture this: It’s lunchtime Thursday and you’re about to reheat last night’s leftover spaghetti for lunch at your desk. Don’t you wish you had a better alternative? Well now you do! Wake Forest’s Music at Midday is your chance to try something new and refreshing!

Music at Midday offers you the opportunity to break away from the grind, go outside, and treat yourself to a free music concert.

These concerts are free and open to the public. Picnics are not only welcome – they’re encouraged!

A dessert truck serving sweet treats will be onsite during each concert.
