Publix is coming to Wake Forest, NC!

It’s opublix-super-markets-whitefficial friends!  Columbia Properties Inc. has announced plans to open a Publix grocery store in Wake Forest, NC.  Publix will be the anchor for The Shoppes at Heritage Village.  The Shoppes at Heritage Village is located on what is called the “going home” corner of Rogers Road and Forestville Road.  It is situated in the heart of Heritage, one of North Carolina’s premier golf communities. Adjacent to Heritage Elementary, Middle and High schools, Shoppes at Heritage Village will have access from both Rogers and Forestville Roads.  Less than five miles away from the site is Wakefield Plantation.  Wakefield Plantation is a 2,200 acre single residential community and is also home to the TPC Wakefield Plantation golf course.  Heritage is a 2,000+ acre master planned community that includes 30 neighborhoods, an award winning golf course, multiple community amenities and approximately 100 acres of open space.  Since commencement of the project in 2000, Heritage has been named Master Planned Community of the Year twice.  As this massive community edges closer to being fully built out, national builders are speeding to acquire the last couple of surrounding parcels of land.  There are three new subdivisions planned within a 2 mile radius of the site and more than 280 homes currently under construction within the immediate trade area.

Publix was founded in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida by George W Jenkins.  It is the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the United States.  Publix is also one of the largest-volume supermarket chains in the country with retail sales reaching over $30.6 billion in 2014.  Currently, Publix employs over $168,500 people and has received numerous awards for being a great place to shop and work.

Columbia Properties purchased the 19 acres on the “going home” corner from Franklin Village LLC in March for $3.5 million and plans a shopping center with the 49,000 square foot Publix and an additional 22,500 square feet in two flex buildings and three outparcels which are available. Managing parter, Dan O’Neill said the Wake Forest Publix will have the “identical floor plan of the Cary store as well as most of the other locations Publix is doing in North Carolina.”  Publix currently has eight stores in the state;  the rest are in and around Charlotte.  The center will begin construction in the spring of 2015 with a planned opening date of early spring 2016.

Columbia Properties began in 1981 and has since developed more than 70 properties in the metropolitan Atlanta area and throughout the southeast.  Currently, CPI manages, leases, and/or owns over one million square feet of retail shopping centers ranging in size from 15,000 to over 100,000 square feet, located in Atlanta metropolitan area and throughout Georgia.
