The snow is beautiful and fun to play in, but can be very dangerous for driving…especially on the back roads and neighborhoods. Wake Forest, as well as the entire state of North Carolina has experienced a lot more accumulation than we’re accustomed to the last couple of days…and it’s still coming down!
The Town of Wake Forest has reported that conditions have improved slightly since last night, but many area roads remain icy and dangerous. The Wake Forest Police Department received almost 90 calls for help since the snow started yesterday. They are reminding everyone to stay home unless you absolutely must go out, and remember that walking can be dangerous too…be careful not to slip and fall on the ice, wear bright clothing so drivers can see you and don’t walk in the roads!
Closings today in Wake Forest include Wake County Schools, all area parks & recreation facilities and the Public Works Center. As well, garbage and recycling pick up scheduled for today will be pushed back until tomorrow. Town Hall will close early today at 3:00pm.
The good news is that, so far, only one power outage has been reported in Wake Forest. Hopefully that number will not increase as the day wears on and some areas are reporting freezing rain and sleet! Friends…be careful, help your neighbors, stay home and stay warm!
Remember, call 911 for emergencies, but for all other non-emergency reports (power outages, fallen trees, downed power lines) residents can call 919-554-6724. Also, click HERE for up to date winter weather information!
