Tuesday’s votes are in! The residents of Wake County’s District 1 (which encompasses the north eastern part of the county…from Wakefield and Heritage in Wake Forest all the way to Zebulon, Wendell and Knightdale) elected Tom Benton to the Wake County Board of Education. Benton has been a devoted educator in Wake County for 40 years working as a teacher and principal until 2005 and has continued to work in several leadership and training roles in more recent years.
In addition, the county-wide vote to approve school bonds won by a large margin of 58%. These bonds will fund construction for 16 new schools to accommodate the 20,000 new students expected by 2018, they will fund a variety of renovations for over 80 existing schools…from major renovations to upgrades on aging electrical, HVAC or plumbing systems and they will fund a variety of technology upgrades so that older schools can keep up with the ever increasing demand of online learning.
