Snow? In Wake Forest? Again!?
Don’t put away your winter coat in Wake Forest just yet!
Thought you saw the end of the snow in February? Think again! The local weather guru, Greg Fishel from WRAL,
is predicting at least one more showing of the normally rare “white stuff” for tomorrow night. Wake Forest area residents usually consider ourselves lucky to get one 2-3 inch snow and a flurry throughout an entire winter, but every so often we get a season of snowy surprises that blanket Wake Forest homes. The 2009-10 winter has definitely been one of those surprises!
December 18th began the snow events with short lived blizzard like conditions throughout Wake County. Some areas got an inch or two, som
e barely got a dusting, but it put everyone in the Christmas spirit. Dreams of a white Christmas fell through for Wake Forest, but January 30 and 31st made up for it by bringing 8-12 inches to the town, making it the biggest snowfall in Wake Forest in several years. Boy, were the kids (and the kids-at-heart) enjoying this one. Wake Forest became “Snowman City” for the next week. Wake County Public School System was closed for three days and opened late on the fourth. Just when we thought our Frosty’s were gone for good, another few inches graced our yards February 12th leaving 1 to 2 inches! We can still taste the snow cream. For those of you who love the snow, enjoy it. We all know know we won;t see another winter like this anytime soon. For those of you who have had enough, take heart – Spring is almost here….I think.
